Wilbur T Purvis III, resident of Douglasville for the past 12 years, is officially announcing his candidacy for City Council of Ward 2 Post 2 of Douglasville. This will be Purvis' first time pursuing public office but he is no stranger to serving the community. For the past 22 years he has served as the Lead Pastor of Destiny World Church located in Austell, GA.

Twenty-two years ago Purvis was given the reins of leadership for a small congregation of 30 people that has grown to 3,000 members. In an effort to accommodate growth Destiny purchased 19 acres of prime real estate that has frontage on 1-20 right on the edge of Douglas county where plans are in place to build a live, work, play community called Imagination. When asked why he wanted to become involved in city government he replied, " For the past 22 years I have had a heart to serve my church. That same heart now wants to serve the community where I live." Secondly, I have heard, "You're either a part of the problem or part of the solution." My desire is to be a part of the solution.

Purvis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Grambling State University in Louisiana and a Master of Divinity degree from Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta. He is originally from a a small town that reminds him of Douglasville-- Mansfield, Louisiana.

He also credits his dad for planting the seed of public office. His dad is currently serving his second term in Louisiana  as the Justice of the Peace at the seasoned age of 79. I guess the proverbial saying is true, "Fruit does not fall far from the tree," said Purvis. Purvis wants to see Douglasville become a LIVE, WORK, and PLAY community. Purvis said, "Douglasville offers these three elements to its residents and I would like to build on what has already been established. I envision Douglasville being a premier place to LIVE because of public safety and great schools; to WORK where entrepreneurs and businesses grow thriving enterprises that employ our residents; and PLAY so that families have a community to enjoy laughter, fun and recreation.

Purvis lives in Douglasville and is married to his wife, Kimberly. They have two children,  Christina and Destin and their pet poodle--Paris.
